Mumbai, August 16, 2018 - Credit Suisse's India IT team is recognised as the Top 5 Coding Powerhouse in India at the TechGig Code Gladiators 2018 grand finale challenge held in Mumbai last month. The bank is the only financial institution that made the Top 5 companies list, ranking 4th overall.

TechGig's Code Gladiators 2018 is the world's biggest coding event, with more than 220,000 coders registered for this year's coding challenge, spanning 80 days and covering over 50 programming languages. This pan-India coding challenge currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for the number of participants.

Credit Suisse technologists (or coders) also secured a top two rank for best staff performance and were acknowledged as the "Best Talent Engagement Partner" for providing an engaging and unique platform of activities for the country's top technology talent to showcase their skills. Out of the 270 Credit Suisse coders participating in the challenge, 128 of them qualified for the semi-finals round and 36 qualified to the grand finale, accounting for 8% of the 450 finalists of this year's coding challenge.

Among the bank's employees who made it to the final round, 15% were female coders, underscoring Credit Suisse's ongoing commitment in fostering gender diversity and skills development.

John Burns, Head of IT India at Credit Suisse, said, "Credit Suisse is committed to fostering a culture of innovation and delivering the technology capabilities and resources required to support the bank's business operations. Our IT team in India is a rapidly growing and vibrant community of some of the best tech minds in the country. We are proud to be at the forefront of developing solutions and applications that leverage cutting edge technologies - such as blockchain, cloud and open source initiatives, big data and analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence - to deliver value within the bank globally, and which in turn enable us to serve the corporate and personal needs of our clients across Investment Banking and Private Banking businesses."

With its strong focus on technology and innovation, Credit Suisse was a proud sponsor of the Machine Learning track of the event, in which participants, including the bank's own technologists, devised complex models and algorithms to solve specific business challenges.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Mr. Burns added: "At Credit Suisse, we always look for talent who are passionate about delivering innovative ideas and cutting edge solutions. Hackathons such as the TechGig Gladiators serves as an excellent platform to engage and attract top engineering talent with an "entrepreneurial mindset" and the drive to create a new future. We always strive to partner with leading tech communities that are on top of trends and serve as an ideal platform for like-minded talent to push the boundaries."

On the Credit Suisse team's achievement at TechGig Code Gladiators 2018, Ramathreya Krishnamurthy, Business Head, TimesJobs and TechGig, noted, "TechGig Code Gladiators has been envisaged as a platform to promote and showcase IT talent to industry veterans. We registered more than 228,880 coders this year. Out of the 450 finalists that made it to the grand finale of this challenging competition, 8% came from Team Credit Suisse, making them one of the top 5 coding powerhouses of India and the only financial institution to achieve this milestone. We are very proud of Credit Suisses achievement and were delighted to partner with them in the TechGig Code Gladiators' 2018 journey."
