Hiring sentiments in the first four months of 2018 were on an upswing but remained subdued in May 2018. Vadodara and Ahmedabad recorded the highest talent demand with 13% and 11% respectively.
June 15, 2018, New Delhi: The May 2018 edition of RecruiteX recorded a drop of 4% in talent demand in comparison to April 2018. This was largely due to market consolidation and an uncertain political environment in one of the key states in India. The employment market witnessed hiring for critical positions only and the legal industry, fashion and export and import sectors emerged as the top hiring sectors. Although the IT/ Telecom sector also recruited professionals, but the numbers were not significant enough to impact the overall talent demand in May 2018. Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur were top three cities to witness an upsurge in the recruitment numbers.
Industry-wise analysis: Legal industry registered 26% rise in hiring
The legal sector in India saw a significant rise of 26% in hiring, followed by the fashion industry and export and import sector which posted a rise of 1% each during May 2018.
Functional area analysis: Legal professionals reported 34% rise in demand
In May 2018, legal professionals saw a rise in demand of 34%, followed by retail service professionals which posted a rise of 7% in hiring. Professionals in finance domain recorded a rise of 2% in the hiring sentiment during the month.
Location-wise analysis: Vadodara records highest talent demand of 13%
Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur were the top three locations to post a maximum rise in demand with 13%, 11% and 5% respectively. Talent demand did not witness a positive hiring momentum in most major locations during the month of May 2018. Among states, Gujarat (except Ahmedabad and Vadodara) posted a 22% rise in the talent demand.
Experience-wise analysis: Freshers lead the talent demand with 8% rise
Hiring picked up for freshers, while it dropped for experienced professionals. Candidates with less than 2 years of experience posted the highest rise of 8% in talent demand in May 2018.
