Times Interschool Quiz 2018: Brilliant Display of Knowledge.... Winners Take It All!!


The Grand Finale of the Times Inter-School Quiz 2018 held at the Sandhya Convention, Gachibowli on October 27, was a display of deep knowledge and effort, which shone through the performances of all the six teams. With three members each battling it out for the top prize, the all-girl team from P. Obul Reddy Public School, comprising of Tarusi Jain, Sharini Srivastava and Siddhi Kabra, came out on top after a nail-biting finish against the boys from Teja Vidyalaya Kodad, St. Andrews School Bowenpally, Army Public School Bolarum, Sanghamitra School and Little Flower High School.

The winners went home richer by Rs1 lakh cash prize, a beautiful trophy for permanent display at their school and some splendid memories to cherish forever. The young boys from Teja Vidyalaya, Kodad who travelled a long distance to participate in the event came out all guns blazing and aced the buzzer round thereby emerging as the clear favourites to win the top honour. The team from Teja Vidyalaya, Kodad, comprising Pavan Tummala, Pavan Balpunuri, Vishnu Dongari, won the first runner-up title and took home the cash prize of Rs 50,000. The second runner-up award went to Ved Pranay Angara, A Virupaksh, and M Sai Sanhith from St. Andrews School, Bowenpally. The boys received a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

Times Inter School Quiz 2018, Hyderabad was an initiative by Optimal Media Solutions, A division of Times Internet Ltd, a Times of India Group was presented by Meluha learning and University Partner ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, powered by Pinnacle Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and Nano Junior college and IIT Academy, supported by Radio Mirchi.

Over 120 teams from Hyderabad and adjoining places who qualified by virtue of a preliminary round, which was held earlier at their respective schools, were invited to take part in the Semi-final round. 
For the preliminary intra-school rounds close to 8000 students participated. After a keenly contested semi-final round, top 6 teams qualified for the on-stage Grand Finale.

Fervent participants in each team gave a tough battle to each other. The participants had to go through mazes of intuited and mind-boggling rounds consisting of questions related to current affairs, science, sports, music and multiple option questions. It was an extremely educational and information enriching competition for the participants along with the audience.

Ace Quizmaster Gautam Bose helmed the entire event with élan and presented this nail biting contest with his brilliant repartee. He has been conducting quiz events for the past 2 decades across the globe. He presented innovative rounds with well crafted content that not only tested the contestants for their knowledge but also brought out their lateral thinking and quick strategy.

Apart from other rounds comprising of audio visuals, buzzers and direct questions, some interesting rounds included one which was called "Newsstand" wherein questions where completely based upon topics from prime time news.

Another round which quickly became the crowd favorite was titled "Listed". Each question of this round had 8 options with 5 of them being correct. Teams had to identify all the correct options within a time limit of 60 seconds. Every correct answer fetched the teams 5 points but their game play stopped the moment they gave a wrong answer. Almost all the 6 teams were neck-to-neck till the buzzer round and were in contention for the top spot.

Major General N. Srinivas Rao, General Officer Commanding, Telangana and Andhra Sub area, Indian Army and his wife Mrs. Anuradha Rao were Chief Guests for the event.

Major General Srinivas Rao complimented the Times Group for a well-managed event and congratulated the winning teams for their tremendous knowledge and feat along with the Quiz Master for bringing forth the best from these young students and challenging them profusely.

The guest speaker for the event was Sudhakar Rao, Director - Branding, ICFAI Group. While addressing the students he congratulated all of them for reaching into grand finale and said that the future of India is the 100 million young minds, out of which some 500 brilliant students are presented during the event to compete in the zealously organised quiz competition. He also urged students to use their common sense and presence of mind, as often people tend to solve simple problems with complex solutions.

The other guest speaker for the event was Y. Sridevi- Founder Director and Principal of Pinnacle Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology who focused on career selection as it's a very important part of a student's life hence needs to be planned very carefully.

The other guests present at the occasion were Abhilekh- Director for Meluha Technologies, Y. Srinivas- Director for Nano Junior College and IIT Academy and celebrity guest RJ Shezzi from Radio Mirchi. They too encouraged the teams and lauded their stupendous victory!
